What your electrical work costs

Pick your project and get a range right away. It is a quick estimate to help you plan, not a quote: the price is confirmed once we have seen your installation.

Before you calculate

What our prices include,
and what they never include

A lower hourly rate is no bargain if it leaves out half of the left-hand column. That is often where the gap between two quotes is hiding.

Included in our prices

  • The licence and the bond. An RBQ licence means a verified qualification and a bond behind it. CMEQ membership is mandatory for every electrical contractor in Québec.
  • Travel and the truck. The vehicle, the tools, the stock of common material that saves a round trip to the supplier in the middle of a job.
  • The time you never see. The load calculation, choosing the equipment, coordinating the connection, the paperwork.
  • The warranty. One year on parts and labour, and a phone that answers afterwards.
  • The insurance. What protects your home if something goes wrong.

Never included

  • The municipal permit, when the municipality requires one.
  • Repairing the finishes: drywall, paint, flooring.
  • Mechanical excavation and backfill.
  • The devices themselves: charger, backup generator, hot tub, range.
  • Upgrading the electrical service, if it becomes necessary. It is the line item that blows a budget apart in the middle of a job.

How we do this work: EV charger installation

Why two quotes do not compare

Nine times out of ten, it is not the same work. Here is what to check on any quote, ours included.

You can check it yourself in the public registry, in thirty seconds. A quote without a number is not comparable to another: it is disqualified.

Brand and rating, not “charger” or “panel”. Two breakers are not worth the same, and that is invisible on an invoice that stays vague.

It is the line item that blows a budget apart in the middle of a job. On a panel where every position is taken, it becomes necessary, and a quote that says nothing about it is not comparable to one that prices it.

How long it lasts, and what it covers: parts, labour, or both. Ours is one year on both.

The person who assessed you, or a crew that will discover the site the same morning. At VGI, the one who assesses is the one who gets in the truck.

Your questions

Questions about prices

Nothing here is a promise of an amount: for that, the project has to be seen.

No. It is a ballpark figure calculated from what you tell us, to help you plan. A quote takes your panel, the distance, the condition of the installation and the access into account. That is seen on site, not in a form.

We come out to see the project and explain the options before pricing anything. Write to us or text us and we will tell you how it works in your case.

Because a single number reads like a commitment, and no honest electrician can commit without having seen the installation. Two neighbouring houses with the same project can end up with different invoices: one has room in the panel, the other does not.

No, and it is the most frequent surprise. On a 100 amp service that is already well loaded, you often have to move up to 200 before installing the charger. We check it and we tell you before the work starts, never halfway through.

The amounts in the estimator are before taxes. They are added to the final invoice, as with any licensed contractor.

Check four things: the RBQ licence number is on it, the equipment is named by brand and by rating, the service upgrade is included or clearly excluded, and the warranty is written down. A quote that gives an amount without those four items is not comparable to another.
